SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT ON ASTROLOGY

It is a happy news that Supreme Court passed orders upholding the introduction of Astrology as a subject at university level. In Telugu University, Hyderabad the subject was introduced long back. Astrology is most sought after subject in Telugu University.

In Telugu University the subject is taught as Diploma and also post graduation. Research scholars also are being taken in Astrology. When a subject is introduced at university level, every effort shall be made to teach the subject in a scientific way with all possible reasoning and eliminating the dogma and wrong notions. For example during Pushkarams for Godavari or Krishna, the practice or saying is that no marriage shall be celebrated in areas along the riverside. The reason for it is that during Pushkarams lot of friends and relatives will be visiting those areas causing problems to attending the marriage work as well attending visitors for Pushkara Snana. This restriction need not be to all the areas of the district where the river is not flowing. But our people give a stock reply that no marriage shall be celebrated. Similarly a practice in Krishna district is prevailing that no marriage shall be celebrated after Dhanurmasa enters (Sankranti month starts). The reason is that during that time harvesting begins and if a marriage is to be celebrated, people of the village who all extends help for marriage work, find it difficult due to conflict of harvesting and marriage works.

When the subject is introduced at university level, an effort shall be made by all universities to use a common Ayanamsa degree i.e. difference in planet degree between fixed zodiac and moving zodiac. Now different Ayanamsa is used such as Nemani or Lahiri or Raman's or K.P. so on so forth. When Jawaharlal Nehru was P.M., a national calendar committee was appointed to arrive at a common Ayanamsa so that different dates for festivals can be avoided, so that common muhurat times can be given, or common dasa/antardasa can be given. So universities shall put in effort for a common practice in many such matters.

Research can be undertaken on dasa/antardasa system. We have 120 years, 108 years, 60 years etc. for dasa system. Dasa is not proportionate in these different systems. If we say that in south India Vimsothari to be followed and Ashtothari to be followed by north India, it is not scientific or rational. When different periods are running under different systems, the interpretations cannot be same. For a person there should not be two interpretations by two astrologers of two different regions. What is the basis of allotting of period for these planets? Is Telugu university teaching this point? If not why? They don't have the information. It is a missing link as in Darwin theory. These universities can do research on this aspect.

Astrologers tell the people that by doing Navagraha japam, the evil effects of the dasa period can be done away. If evil effects can be eliminated by this, practically it is changing the influence of the planets in birth horoscope. So we can start changing the horoscope influence or nullifying the influence and changing the destiny. Is it possible or is it misleading?

In Telugu university, as we understand, the faculty members do not have thorough knowledge of Sayana system of astrology and as a result when students having knowledge of the subject put questions they are being brushed aside. Even their exam papers are not valued by the learned people in that subject, resulting in their scoring low marks. There are people like Dr.V.N.Sastry, T.K.Sastry, V.Krishna (s/o late V.V.Rao), Indira & Sambasiva Rao students of V.V.Rao and others. University can take the services of those well versed with the subject until they get well qualified people with degrees. Teaching all systems thoroughly is important when the subject is introduced at university level.

Similarly Vaastu is one subject along with Astrology. Vaastu is civil engineering of ancient days like Dhanvantari is medicine of those times. Many Vaastu Pandits of modern day are creating fear psychosis in the minds of people by telling dangers of death or financial ruin or the like and exploiting them in all the ways. These universities shall educate the people in general to eliminate the dogma or wrong-notions.

When universities can take up the task in all its comprehension, the purpose of introducing Astrology at university level will be served.
